This is a busy book year for us at Hero!! We have been published and featured in quite a few books that release in 2009 and we couldn't be any more humbled by it. Here is another great book we were published in, among some of THE most talented artists working today.
This phenomenal book entitled Naïve - Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design documents the extraordinary renaissance of Classic Modernism, from the 1940s to 1960s, in contemporary graphic design. This compilation introduces a new wave of young designers who are rediscovering the stylistic elements reminiscent of classic graphic design such as silkscreen printing, classical typography, hand lettering, woodcutting and folk art and integrating them into their work. Inspired by 20th Century American legends such as Saul Bass, Charley Harper and Alexander Girard, the burgeoning designers and their work showcased this in this book are inspiring, ranging from illustrations, poster art, editorials, book covers and record sleeves to stationary and textiles.
Naïve features some of our most talented friends as well, it is truly a great collection of work. For more information about Naïve and to check out spreads from this book go to the publisher, Gestalten's website here - the book should be available state side very soon.

Geometric Book

I am obsessed with both the simplicity of geometric shapes and the complexity and intricacy of patterns, so this book is a MUST HAVE on my list now, since it's a little bit of both.
Kapitza, an independent Design company based in East London, recently published their new book entitled, Geometric.
"Geometric is a unique pattern resource book featuring an exciting collection of 264 colourful and monochrome pattern illustrations. Get inspired by Kapitza’s pattern art, all created with the 100 Geometric pattern fonts included on the CD for Mac and Windows. Now designing your own patterns is as easy as typing – but with much more exciting results."

Italia Modern Design Book.

Saw this amazing book over at Grain Edit and I want it!!! So many great designs from the 1950s-1970s and includes many of my favorites like Bruno Munari, Giovanni Pintori, Max Huber, Enzo Mari, Pino Tovaglia, Albe Steiner etc. It also includes a fair amount of work from Olivetti and Pirelli.
Anyone know where to find it?

Fifty Designers' Current Favourite Typefaces

Designer James West of Create/Reject recently completed a new project to help provide aid to victims of Cyclone Nargis that hit Myanmar on May 2, 2008. West assembled a small book which features, as the name suggests, 'Fifty Designers' Current Favourite Typefaces'. Some of the biggest names in graphic design and typography participated, doing their part to help out. 100% of the cover price goes to UNICEF's Myanmar Cyclone Children's Appeal.
