We're going on tour.

We are very excited to announce that we will be on the road for two whole weeks this March.

Our first stop will be in Baltimore where we were hired by the University of Maryland for a 2-day feature during Design Week. The first day we are going to be guest lecturing a group of design students and the second day will be running a day-long print workshop. We will be posting more info about this soon.

From Baltimore we're back on the road and driving to Bowling Green, KY to hang and print with our good friends Connie and Jim of Print Mafia. We are producing a Hero/Print Mafia collab art print that will debut the following week at Flatstock 24 at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Then back in the car with our pal Ron from Madpixel in Louisville, who is joining the tour in his wheels, for the long drive to Austin for Flatstock and SXSW. Flatstock runs Thursday 3/18, Friday 3/19 and Saturday 3/20 in the Austin Convention Center.

We are also very excited to announce that Hero was asked to be a featured speaker on a panel at SXSW's Music Festival this year. Mark will be one of just a few featured speakers on a panel called, "It's So Big! Packaging Design from CDs to Vinyl to Merchandise." We will be posting more about this panel soon, but, if you are headed to SXSW this year, plan on attending, the panels are free to attend with your badge and this one promises to be an exciting, thought provoking and informative discussion.

Lastly, we will be releasing a new poster at Flatstock for a movie that is debuting at SXSW's Film Festival. We are super excited about the film and this project and we can't wait to share more about it with you.

So there you have it, we will be escaping the last few weeks of the miserable weather in Buffalo, missing our pets like crazy and packing up the Element for the first BIG road trip of the year. We are stoked!

Terry Posters - A Film Poster Database

Terry Posters is an amazing online database with over 6,000 film posters from all over the world. You can search by designer, film origin, date, film title, director, actors and more. It's a little hard to find your way around at first, but well worth the time. Mostly featured are vintage posters and some posters are even available for sale, but there is also a section of contemporary posters. There is just so much great stuff in there.

Objectified - A new film by Gary Hustwit

From Gary Hustwit:

"First off, I want to thank all of you for your support during the making and release of Helvetica. The last two years have been quite an adventure, and it was my privilege to have you along with me. So I'm hoping you're up for joining me on another adventure: Objectified, my forthcoming documentary feature about industrial design. It's about the manufactured objects we surround ourselves with, and the people who make them. It's about the world of creativity behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets, featuring some of the world's most influential industrial designers. It's also about consumerism, sustainability, and identity.

I've launched a new website and blog for the film here:

http://www.objectifiedfilm.com

I've been lucky enough to find a super cast of designers and design experts so far:

Paola Antonelli (Museum of Modern Art, New York)
Chris Bangle (BMW Group, Munich)
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (Paris)
Andrew Blauvelt (Walker Art Center, Minneapolis)
Anthony Dunne (London)
Naoto Fukasawa (Tokyo)
IDEO (Palo Alto)
Jonathan Ive (Apple, California)
Hella Jongerius (Rotterdam)
Marc Newson (London/Paris)
Fiona Raby (London)
Dieter Rams (Kronberg, Germany)
Karim Rashid (New York)
Alice Rawsthorn (International Herald Tribune)
Rob Walker (New York Times Magazine)

And more participants TBA.

The film will premiere in early 2009; in the meantime on the blog we'll be discussing the issues covered in the film, posting still photos from the shoots, and video excerpts as we finish the movie. And this Helvetica email list will now magically turn into the Objectified email list. If you'd like to follow along, just sit tight and we'll put you on the new list automatically. If you're tired of all this design film craziness, you can opt out via the link below.

Thanks again for your support, and I hope you'll enjoy the new film!

Cheers,

-Gary "
