Tim Burton's Magical Fashion

I am a big fan of fimmaker, Tim Burton's work. The colors, the intensity, the exaggeration - it is just all so beautiful. In anticipation of his retrospective at New York's Museum of Modern Art, Burton reimagines the season's dark delights for Harper's Bazaar. Photographs by Tim Walker.

Many of Burton's movies fall on my all time favorite movies list and I am eagerly awaiting Alice in Wonderland, now it looks like I may have to make sure I get to New York for his retrospective at the MoMA.

Insa Heels

You may remember UK Artist Insa from this Dunny he made for Kid Robot in August of 2007, which sold out very quickly at Hero. Now, Insa introduces Insa Heels. It was only a matter of time for this to come, after the artist has become known through his heels design in recent years.

Based in London, ‘Insa Heels’ is a bold backlash against mass production and aims to establish itself as a luxury footwear brand with limited edition colors, using only top end materials and European production.

The artist got together with Ruth Shaw, a London based shoe designer, to bring Insa Heels to life. The first release includes three colorways of the "Classic" stiletto, both featuring the iconic Insa Heels designs.

The website with online store will be going live today, September 17th.

Dressing the Part - Inside the Stylish World of Mad Men

Mad Men returned to AMC this past Sunday for it's second season and the new men's lifestyle website, Valet, has a four part feature that explores the style of each character with the assistance of costume designer Janie Bryant. The article takes a look at which current designers are taking their cues from the fads of post-war America, and even lists vital accessories and tips to help you dress the part.

You should DEFINITELY be watching Mad Men if you aren't already. Sundays at 10pm EST on AMC.

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy at the Met

When I was in NYC at the beginning of June, I had the pleasure of catching the Superheroes exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was a beautiful collection of costumes and couture, and to see the actual costumes that the actors have wore during filming was incredible (Michelle Pfeiffer must be TINY, that cat woman suit was very small).

The symbolic and metaphorical associations between fashion and the superhero are explored in this compelling exhibition. Featuring movie costumes, avant-garde haute couture, and high-performance sportswear, it reveals how the superhero serves as the ultimate metaphor for fashion and its ability to empower and transform the human body. Objects are organized thematically around particular superheroes, whose movie costumes and superpowers are catalysts for the discussion of key concepts of superheroism and their expression in fashion.
