FREE Screen Printing Demo Workshop with Hero at WNYBAC

In conjunction with our Retrospective Exhibit "Pulled to the Limit" at WNY Book Arts Center we are teaching a FREE Screenprinting Demo on Wednesday, February 17, 6-8pm at WNYBAC.

Screen printing is a great and fun way to exhibit artwork or advertise an event like a concert or exhibition. Silkscreen printing (also known as serigraphy) is a method of print making in which the negative of an image is blocked out of a screen of fine mesh, and ink is pulled through the open areas of the mesh onto the printing surface. In this workshop, we will introduce you to the basics of screen printing while demonstrating the printing process. We will discuss the basics of file and film preparation, mesh selection, frames, stencil systems, printing techniques, ink, reclamation of screens, and how screen printing affects the finishing processes.

This is a FREE demo workshop, space is very limited, and pre-registration is REQUIRED to attend. To pre-register please send an email to info [at] wnybookarts [dot] org, please include your name and that you wish to attend the Screenprinting Workshop with Hero. After you have received confirmation of your place in the workshop, if you find you are unable to attend, we just ask that you contact WNYBAC to cancel your spot, so that it may be given to someone else that wishes to attend.

As an attendee you will be given an opportunity to print and a copy of the finished poster that we will be producing during the workshop.

Pulled to the Limit runs until Saturday, February 20.

For Sale - Call For Work

Buffalo based Designer/Artists Patricia Schraven and Nick Bruscia have put out a call for work for a pop-up storefront exhibition to be hosted at the WNY Book Arts Center. The event is sponsored by WNYBAC and Hero Design Studio.

Participants are asked to re-think the idea of the souvenir, and create NEW objects to be shown in a temporary POP-UP storefront in the City of Buffalo. This is a chance to redefine and comment on the social and cultural atmosphere of our city. Souvenirs for Buffalo will be a one-off exhibition in late June 2009. Objects must be produced in multiples. There is a $20 submission fee for any number of proposals up to 4. For submissions and more info, email forsalebuffalo (at) gmail.com

More info will be posted on their blog www.forsalebuffalo.wordpress.com soon!!

Buffalo Small Press Book Fair

If you are in Buffalo this weekend, be sure to check out the 3rd Annual Buffalo Small Press Book Fair. Even though Hero will be at Flatstock at SXSW in Austin, we are still gonna have a booth at the book fair this year. YUP it's definitely magic! We'll be debuting a few new prints there for sale and have a huge collection of our existing prints for sale.

The Buffalo Small Press Book Fair is a regional one day event that brings booksellers, authors, bookmakers, zinesters, small presses, artists, poets, and other cultural workers (and enthusiasts) together in a venue where they can share ideas, showcase their art, and peddle their wares.

The 3rd Annual Buffalo Small Press Book Fair will be held on March 21, 2009 at Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, 453 Porter Avenue, Buffalo, NY. For more information, see the Attend page on their website!

Remember this event is FREE and open to the public!

Read more about the Book Fair here and check out all the vendors and the schedule of events.
